Category 5: a reminder of our fragile lives and the audacity of the federal government .

The island of Puerto Rico where I was born and raised has suffered a severe storm catastrophe.. it has been almost destroyed. One hundred percent of its power was wiped out. There was no communication for days. We could not reach our loved ones in the island so we did not know if they were dead or alive. It has been one of the worst natural disasters for puertoricans in a century.

It just makes me think about how fragile human life is.  In a few hours everybody’s lives were dramatically changed. . A few people died and others were just left homeless .

Now people are struggling to survive in an island with no power , no water, and few resources .. Food is scarce and gas is limited.  And now the federal government is finally arriving and helping out… but it’s not enough .  The mayor of Puerto Rico’s capital, Mrs. Cruz, made it very clear that there are people who are dying and there is  not enough help from the federal government.

No way to go to hospitals or gas stations because there is not enough gas… can’t get gas because the gas stations are empty or have long lines.. can’t go to the grocery stores to get water and food because there is no gas in cars… can’t call anyone because there is no signal or internet… so on and so forth.

And now the president of this “great nation” is saying that the mayor of San Juan has poor leadership skills, and that the people of Puerto Rico want ” everything to be done for them.”

Screw him!

Now he is planning to travel to Puerto Rico this Tuesday.   To do what? Make a show and pretend he cares about the victims ? It’s all politics, and he should be politically incorrect ..  the government will spend too much money sending this clown and protecting him during this trip . This money should be spent helping the people of Puerto Rico.

The mayor or San Juan said she is mad as hell… we should all be mad  as hell.

Obsolete thinking

We are living in times when there is still communities and organizations that adopt a way of thinking that should be obsolete by now. Thinking and believing that one particular race is superior to others is simply ignorant and immature.

These are individuals who cannot accept the fact that their way of thinking is already obsolete. Cannot accept the fact that we are finally realizing that we are one community under the description of simply “being human.”

We have been growing and becoming one community.  Those who resist and practice hatred continue to choose to live in their own premature and underdeveloped frame of mind.  They identify with the old way of thinking that is based on segregation , division, and discrimination.  It is simply a lazy way of describing our society.  It is trying to feel better about themselves by putting others down . Practicing hatred and discriminating is another way of bullying.

Choosing to perceive one’s race , ethnicity , culture, and belief system as superior to others says a lot about our own insecurities.  It says that we are afraid. It says that there is something we don’t like about ourselves without admitting it .  It says that I cannot look at my own faults and shortcomings , so I’m going to focus on others instead who seem different than me and then attack them.  It is basically based on fear.

But we can do better. We can live our lives, not based on fear, but based on acceptance and love.  We can live our lives accepting each other as mere human beings and learning to live as one community.  We can still do this and celebrate diversity.  A rainbow would not be a rainbow without its different colors .  A forest would not be a forest without its various kinds of plants, animals, and trees. Our bodies would not be a complete body without its different parts performing their own functions and still work harmoniously together .

Let us unapologetically expose  the hatred , and then replace  it with acceptance and love .

Tomorrow

Tomorrow the US will have a new president.

A new president who respects no one, except his own arrogant self.

A new president who has proven to be unfit to be the leader of this great nation.

Tomorrow will be a sad day for many of us.

But I have learned not to pay too much attention to the obvious derogatory character that this person has shown.

I rather spend more time and energy focusing on what the rest of us Americans can do to better ourselves.

Like our former First Lady said: “When they go low, we go high!”

So let us do just that.

Let us stand up and continue our fight to defend liberty and freedom.

Tomorrow could be perceived as the first day in our new fight.

Tomorrow we can start fighting to defend immigrants , who are a big part of this nation’s growing economy.

Tomorrow we can start supporting for continuous health care coverage for every American.

Tomorrow we can start emphasizing on the importance of maintaining good relationship with the rest of the world.

Tomorrow we will have an opportunity to show each other the greatness of equality, alternative source of energy, and education on mental health services as a tool to lower gun violence.

Tomorrow will be a day when we can continue to lift our faces and admire the beauty of our diversity, the awesomeness of respecting each other belief system, and the greatness of free speech.

Tomorrow will be our opportunity .

Tomorrow and many years to come.

We can do this. It is our responsibility.

Yes, tomorrow will be the day to show to the world how great America is.

What we are teaching our children

No matter if you insult and sexually assault people , you can still be elected president of the US.

No matter if you intimidate others , discriminate ,and cause division , people can still vote for you and become president of the US.

No matter if you discriminate and act arrogant, and have a grandiose complex, you can still be president of the US.

No matter if you make fun of disabled people, you still can make history and become president of the US.

All you have to do is act as if money is the most important thing to be somebody and be well  respected.

Just be arrogant, self centered, and grandiose and people will want you to be their leader.

This country has shown to the rest of the world that what we value the most are the things we once discouraged in our homes, school, and churches . But this country has made a big turn .

Because this country we call “America” has chosen a bullying billionaire who exhibits all these characteristics, and has become the next president of the US.

Dear Trump Supporter…

For all of the Trump supporters out there: Where in your heart do you find the strength and the integrity to continue to support a billionaire who will continue to insult and disrespect minorities, disabled people, and other Americans ?
Why do you continue to support someone who does not apologize for the mistakes that he obviously makes? Someone who most parents would not want their children to listen to while he insults other people? I’m truly sorry if you support someone simply because they are the only one who officially represents your political party. Someone who you think shares your values and, if he really does, then you have some serious value issues.

Please answer my question, why do you continue to support this bully?

I have a brother who is disabled; I don’t want the next president to mock people like my brother. I know friends who are veterans and I don’t want the next president to disrespect them simply because of their heritage. I have a wife, a daughter and a mother… I don’t want the next president to be someone who has called women pigs.

So I ask myself, why would you? No matter how much he claims to be a conservative, to represent the values of your party, this man does not deserve our vote. If we’re going to continue to be an honorable nation , proud of our heritage , and proud of the way that we welcome immigrants and others and try to reach out for common ground, we need to take a serious look at this individual. If you are not appalled and outraged by the numerous statements of this candidate , you are not paying attention or you simply don’t care.

We should not have someone like Trump misrepresent us and be our next president. We should not support someone who belongs to the 1% and is out of touch with the majority of us who struggle to make a living. Like our current president said, if people from his own party keep saying , on a daily basis, that what Trump says is unacceptable, why continue to endorse him? Don’t you have the character and integrity to say “enough”? We should not support this opportunist and arrogant individual.

But why do you?

D.C. , here we go !

Tuesday , 6 am:  My son and I are going on a field trip to the capital of the world.. We are in the bus right now. Sleep deprived. But excited.  Let’s see how this goes.

7:30 am.  The bus breaks down.  Don’t know what’s wrong with it.  Seating down waiting for a replacement bus.  Still in Florida.  It’s getting hot inside a bus with 5o+ people.

Wednesday 8:00. Had a good night sleep.

Heading now to Mount Vernon. It’s cold and cloudy.

6:00 pm.  Visited zoo, White House,  Newseum, FDR  and MLK Memorials. Great experience .  Did not see the president.  Pizza for dinner with 50+ kids screaming.  Eating like a king.  My son is having a good time.

Thursday 8 am.  Heading out to DC again.

12 pm. A very emotional and exciting

experience at Vietnam and Korean War memorials.  Tears in my eyes as I contemplated on so many statues of soldiers .    Lincoln memorial was awesome. The light rain and cold did not take away our joy.  Our tour guide (Mrs Freeman) was great. My son really seemed to appreciate the memorials .

Walking by the Capitol

6 pm. Visited the National Archives,  the  Capitol, and Arlington National Cemetery.  Did a lot of walking (and eating).   Went to bed as soon as kids quieted down .

Friday 8:45 am.  Left hotel for the last time.  Good breakfast.   Visited Smithsonian meuseum.  Walked and stood under the rain from one museum to another.   But it was worth it.

4:30 pm. Heading out on bus to eat dinner. It’s been a long and tiresome day, but fun.

Saturday 9 am .   Return to Florida, finally seeing some sunshine. It was a long trip back home.  My son slept most of the trip. Would do it all over again.
